Advantages: Small, compact, loads of pubs, bars and a cosmopolitan buzz
Disadvantages: The "do you know so and so" situation can be a little bit wearing!
Edinburgh - Athens of the North, Scotlands capital, and generally a hip and happening place to be. Long regarded as the dour sister of the more extravagent Glasgow, the enduring cosmopolitan nature of Edinburgh means that there is always something to do or someone to see. From cafe society of Iguana or Indigo Yard, to one of the many pubs along the Grassmarket or Rose Street, Edinburgh truly offers something for everyone. So what if Edinburgh lacks the in your face see and be seen culture of Glasgow - we may be thrifty, but when we have a good time, we don't need Armani or Versace on our backs. In terms of style, Edinburgh is certainly much more understated than Glasgow (or weegieland as it's known locally). But a good time will certainly be had by all. The small size of Edinburgh means that meeting new people invariably means meeting people you've never met before, but who know at least 4 of your friends. Some people find this a tad insular, but for most of us, it just saves a whole lot of hassle - and gives everyone something to talk about. The prospects of Edinburgh continue on the up and up, with the thriving financial community, the Scottish Parliament, and of course the annual culture fest that is the Edinburgh Festival or the Fringe. All in all, Edinburgh is a top city, and certainly worthy of a visit - especially at hogmanay, when we really let our hair down!
