Edinburgh is one of my most favourite City's.Having lived along the Royal Mile as a child I know of a few of its best points from a visitors point of view.
Ten minutes in one direction from the Royal Mile is the famous Princes street full of every type of shop available together with three different shopping malls helps make Princes Street into a wonderful town centre.Situated next to the train station, the town centre is a huge attreaction.
Edinburgh is also known for its massive Summer festival, where huge parades trek through large crowds of people and cameras, and street entertainers and vendors take the remaining available space.evening entertainment is in every available theatre and hall during the festival, and all well advertised. Many famous actors and comedians have once had the spotlight in such events.
At the end of the Royal Mile you will find Hollyrood House-the royal house of residence when the Queen stays in Scotland. This is placed near some magnificent cliffs that make a lovely -if tiring-walk!Continuing ten minutes in the other direction(with good traffic!)is the sea and large sandy beaches, although finding the weather suitable for bathing is difficult at most times in Scotland!
Other main attractions include the infamous Edinburgh Castle and its yearly Tattoo, where hundreds of different countries get their military bands, and men to perform, entertain and parade into a specially built packed stadium.Tickets must be bought in advance from the booking office next to Edinburgh train Station.
The story of Grair Friars Bobby,an adorable faithfl little dog will prompt a visit-or tour to see the statue or get the book.
Ediburgh is a City with a lot of history. The whole city is built above the'old Edinbirgh'where hundreds of thousands died during the plague.Parts of this underworld is now open to viewing with regular, experienced tour guides-but be pre[ared to be spooked,it is played upon by the tour giudes but is definat
ly not a comfortable experience!
Edinburgh has so much to offer-I would love to live there! There is always so much going on,and I love the accent!
