Advantages: Beautiful, Loads to do, Something for everyone
Disadvantages: Too far away!!!!
I visited Edinburgh at the end of last summer during my honeymoon and it is difficult to do it justice in a short opinion, but I will try my best. We were staying just outside glasgow so took the roughly 30 minute train ride through some very scenic countryside to Scotland's capital.
I was immediately struck by how beautiful the city is, particularly the castle perched on high. The old buildings, Royal mile having many, are charming and intriguing. There are so many little alleyways which are all worth exploring - we found a lovely pub called the Jolly Judge down one where they served delicious Highland Tatties.
Juxtaposed with the olde world parts are the modern shops and pubs, but these do not dominate in the same way they seem to in some other cities.
Afternoon tea was taken in a town house owned by the National Trust, surrounded by books and homemade cakes - heaven!
In the park beneath the castle was a carousel which I had a ride on, taking me back to when I was a little girl - the perfect end to a memorable day in what is now one of my favourite cities. I can't wait to go back!
