Advantages: Good food, if a little inconsistent, Reasonable price, Good atmosphere

Disadvantages: Service a little slow

Firstly, the Bad Ass I went to was in Rose Street, Edinburgh so I am not sure if this is a chain of Bistros or whether they just happen to have the same name?

It's a lovely cafe, the mood is intimate and cozy - whether it be couples or groups of friends our for a nice meal.

There is a good selection of dishes and I started with the Potato and Cheese soup. Three people in our group had this and two people (me being one) got a runny sort of soup which did not taste of much. The third person had the same soup but theirs was nice and thick and actually tasted of potato and cheese. So not very consistent with the food standard! The warm bread and pot of butter you got with it, made up for the slight lack of flavour.

I wanted to try the traditional haggis seeing as I was in Edinburgh so I had a dish called "Highlander Chicken".
This was a breast of chicken sat on a "bed of haggis" with fries served with a creamy malt whiskey sauce. The haggis was lovely as was the chicken and the sauce complimented the dish perfectly. I was too stuffed to eat any of the fries!

Overall the food was lovely, just the dodgy start with the soup. The service can be a little slow at times and you may have to badger the staff to bring your bill.

I had 3 drinks (spirit and mixer) with a starter and main course and it cost £20 which I thought was reasonable given that the cafe had such a great atmosphere.
