It seems that when people come to visit beautiful Edinburgh, they end up even without meaning to sometimes in Princes Street. Princes Street is renowned for shopping! so only real die hard fans of shopping should venture there. I would actually recommend taking the bus as then you will not have to fight traffic or draw guns at ... Read the complete review

While we were staying in Ayr, there was a day trip out to Edinburgh, and we decided to have a view at the capital city of Scotland. Edinburgh became Scotland’s capital city following the d eath of James I, king of Scotland, at Perth (the former capital). The city is twinned with eight other cities including: Dunedin, Florence, Kiev, and ... Read the complete review

I visited Edinburgh at the end of last summer during my honeymoon and it is difficult to do it justice in a short opinion, but I will try my best. We were staying just outside glasgow so took the roughly 30 minute train ride through some very scenic countryside to Scotland's capital. I was immediately struck by how beautiful the city ... I would like to express my feelings and let you dooyoo members know how much I enjoyed my visit to Edinburgh. This is how it all started. I was looking through some websites and noticed an advertisement of GNER Railway on one of the websites. It was as easy as 123. They were offering a return ticket for just £36.00 to Edinburgh. I ... I hate A - Z guides, don’t you? They’re so superficial and contrived. I mean, what are the chances you’re going to find exactly one entry for each letter of the alphabet? You’re bound to miss something out and what happens when you get to the entry for X? It’s always either obvious, a cheat or obscure! So, with that ... Read the complete review

Though I was originally planning on living in London when I first arrived in the UK, one visit to Edinburgh was enough to change my mind. The history, the people, the overall feel of the place... you just can't beat it. [Though before you read any further, I should warn you: I'm a little biased. Having spent the greater part of ... As a visitor to Edinburgh I have always found this a wonderful City. There is a terrific amount of history in Edinburgh, which is of course dominated by Edinburgh Castle which overlooks the city centre. There are also so many interesting places to visit that you can go back time after time and still find new attractions. In ... Read the complete review

Whenever i drive home from University, the beauty of Edinburgh never fails to amaze me. As i round the curve on the A68, Arthur Seat, The Castle and the Firth of Forth hit me. Edinburgh is a completely unique adn wonderful city. It has the seven hills all in and around the city. The amount of 'green areas' for a city is ... Read the complete review

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. What makes it different to London, which is the capital city of England is the fact that it is not so busy and people have time for each other. People do not rush past you. I visited Edinburgh last January. It was a beautiful place for a short four day visit. I spent three days in Edinburgh itself and on ... Read the complete review

This has been my third visit to Edinburgh, and believe me it just keeps getting better. I had never been to Scotland before, and somewhat ignorantly imagined it would look like London (a city which I adore, nevertheless). But while maintaining a certain Englishness, there's no denying Edinburgh is waaaaaay different from England - and I'm ... Read the complete review

The baby died at birth. A changeling was substituted. That was the legend. Many years later, in 1830, the bones of a baby were found. The bones, wrapped in richly embroidered silk, were in a small oak coffin. The coffin had been hidden in the wall of a tiny room. It was the room where Mary Queen of Scots had given birth to a son. ... Read the complete review

~ ~ This honorary title has been bestowed on Edinburgh, the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Scotland, as an acknowledgement of its outstanding beauty as a city. It is a title, which is well deserved. Edinburgh is indeed an exceptionally beautiful city, situated at the mouth of the “Firth of Forth”, its city centre dominated by ... Read the complete review

Edinburgh has to be one of the most pleasant of Britains major citites and it has all the right ingrediants for the perfect day out. It has everything you'd expect from a big city such as restaurants, shops and tourist attractions but it also has lots and lots of culture, much more than other Scottish citites and certainly more than Glasgow ... Even as a small child, I have always been fascinated by the fantastic array of lights to be found in the city at night. Cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow come alive at night-time, not just with people but the beauty of the surroundings are shown by strategic lighting. This is especially true of Edinburgh which has the reputation ... Read the complete review

As a Glaswegian (or a 'weedgie') I need to be a bit careful here writing an opinion on Edinburgh. But worry not my friends in the east - I love your city to bits. There is naturally a fair bit of competition between our two major cities, with the residents of each believing that their city is the better of the two. Personally though I ... If only London was half as elegant as Edinburgh, the English might have some greater basis to be so arrogant about our culture and history. I have never been to a city in the British Isles which reminded me as much of one of the great unspoiled European cities like Prague or Budapest. There is something almost Parisian about the profusion of ... Read the complete review

I moved to Edinburgh about a year ago to follow my heart and work! At first is was a bit daunting being so far from home, but Edinburgh soon worked its magic. The city centre doesn't really feel as if you are in a countrys capital, more like a friendly big town. The cobbled streets and turreted buildings add charm, character and warmth to ... Edinburgh is also known as Embra, Auld Reekie and loads of other things to name a few. Auld Reekie comes from the days of steam trains and coal chimneys, what happened was the buildings in the main town centre near the Waverley Train Station went black due to the steam and smoke, the buildings have all been cleaned in recent years and are back to ...
