Great place for a Short Break (Fishguard)

Advantages: Pretty little town; lots to photograph Disadvantages: Parking is a PIG! I visited Fishguard a couple of years back and the town was just a stopover for one night, but we did manage to have the afternoon in town. I can only comment on the town centre as that was all we had time to see, but from memory, we booked into a B & B on the high street, which had no parking facilities. We had to park half a mile away at the end of the yellow lines and walk back to the B & B with our cases. The double room in the B & B was so tiny that there was room just to stand upright on three sides of the bed, but nowhere to put the case (had to be on top of the wardrobe) and no way could you bend down! To cap it all, the floor had been laminated and the bed was on wheels so you can imagine what fun we had that night! We went into town. Fishguard itself has no big stores, but lots of what you might term as "little shops", designer shops, and gift shops. It's the perfect shopping stop for that unusual gift - if you can park! There are a couple of pretty churches and parks in the vicinity of the town centre, and lots of picturesque views if you have a camera with you. It's not a very visitor-friendly town simply because of the narrow streets creating parking problems and the cost of the car parks making them really only available to the rich! Much as it was an interesting town for shopping, I wouldn't go back there unless I had to. Summary: Very pretty little town. |
