Advantages: Some of the new buildings going up are very nice!
Disadvantages: Some areas are still a bit dodgy.
I guess this is supposed to say "Newport in General". (At the time of writing, I am actually reviewing "General in Newport"). I have lived in the City of Newport for a few years now, so I'll briefly discuss the city and my experiences of it in this review.
Newport has a little bit of a negative reputation, because supposidly certain parts of it are rough/their is a lot of crime/ there are children as young as ten selling drugs on the streets. I think this has got ALOT better over time, and perhaps in the past, Newport did used to be quite rough. There are a lot more middle class suburbs now and whilst the rough inner pockets still exist, Newport definately is somewhere you can safely walk at night.
Newport has quite a nice little High Street, with all the regular favourites, and it's small size is quite nice in some ways. It isn't absoloutely mini, however it's small enough that you cannot easily get lost and everything is in a practical walking distance from everything else.
The Bus and Train stations are quite easy to get to from the City Centre, and I'm a big fan of the train station, it's very nice and I have had no problems passing through it. The bus station is a little bit dodgy, with groups of youths hanging around and carrying out muggings and minor theft.
I think Newport is heading in the same direction that Cardiff is, and some of the rougher areas of Newport are being regenerated, as was the case with Cardiff Bay. Hopefully the city will be far nicer and devloped in the not too distant future.
Summary: I used to hate Newport, but I am finding that it is increasingly growing on me.
