Advantages: Going there will make you appreciate your life.

Disadvantages: Too many to list

I have had the misfortune to visit this place and what a dump! I flew into Glasgow and hired a car to drive there. It took about 45 minutes to get there, driving through mainly industrial areas. The town itself consists mainly of a strip of high street with relatively run down shops with a smattering of scottish stone built houses. To the back of the high street are a number of streets lined with what look like drab 1940's council houses. Check out "The Wee Chippie" which is a grubby looking chip shop serving the scottish national dish of fried everything in batter.

I went in March and was treated to the coldest wind you have ever felt accompanied by piercing shards of rain. This was all wrapped up in grey skies and about 2 hours of real daylight. The view over the Clyde takes in the beauty of the industrial docks and I'm told that in the Summer (I assume this is just a time slightly drier than normal) you will be plagued by midges.

There is a complete lack of anything for tourists to see or do other than drink in some of the grottiest pubs (apart from the Spinnaker) I have ever been in; talk to the many drunken, drug addled, apparently unemployed, miserable locals; or swim at the outdoor pool!!!

This place is a tired, run down hole from which I would assume most teenagers would wish to escape from and actually makes Barnsley look like Rome.

Summary: A place God has clearly had nothing to do with.

Sounds delightful not. At a guess I suppose you work for the Gourock tourist board!

So you didn't like it then - LOL! The question is if you got this far why didn't you take the ferry over to Dunoon and explore the beautiful Argyll scenery?
