Advantages: small yet near perfectly formed
Disadvantages: fishy and a bit rainy
Grimsby. GRIMsby. The name says it all really... Or does it?
Underneath the bleak, cloudy/rainy, fish scented surface there really is a great little town.
It may not be big and it may not have everything we wish it did but it's not a bad place to live. Firstly, I have just GOT to mention the fish in this town. It's absolutely delicious. I haven't had better fish and chips anywhere. My favourite chippie is down littlefield lane but I have heard rave reviews about a restaurant called Steel's in cleethorpes as well.
Freshney place. Named after the river freshney which is a bit dire to be fair but the shopping centre is nice. Not alot of choice but at least the shops we do have keep us up to date with fashion to suit every price range. Eg, primark to the little departments in Binns. Also got all the major stores like hmv, smiths, marks + sparks etc. (Sadly, we have just lost woolies but the memory will live on at least until they take down the fascias)
There are numerous restaurants and bars dotted around the town centre. Again, big names such as wetherspoons and lloyds. A small yet perfectly formed pizza hut sits opposite freshney place, right next to the bus depot. And there is a brand new restaurant called Mr Jones which is a buffet place which I adore. I went there for my birthday and it was fantastic. Good value for money. Another good restaurant would be Oriental Express in Cleethorpes, same sort of buffet style as Mr Jones, just with oriental food. For fast food lovers there are 6 Mcdonalds, 3 KFC's and a burger king. Also a little joint called Howells within Freshney Place.
We also have pretty much everything other towns have to offer (technically some of it is in cleethorpes but whatever). We have 3 tesco's including the express one down GY road, asda, sainsburys and morrisons. Also discount chains aldi and we have 2 lidl's. There is a bowling alley, cinema, arcades, 2 mini golf's, pleasure island theme park, 3 leisure centres, auditorium, i'm pretty sure lazer quest is still around but don't quote me on that.
There is also a caravan park next to the theme park which is pretty nice too.
All in all, we're not a bad place to visit. The resort is full of people from yorkshire every year for the carnival or just to have a mooch round town. When all this is right under your nose you take it for granted but it's a nice place to be.
Summary: we need to bring back the title of GREAT Grimsby
