I lived in Grimsby for a few years and I never, ever wish to go back there again, but unfortunetly I do have close family down there and so as a result I do have to go down there atleast twice a month. It's a horrible place which I honestly can not stand. Grimsby is a small town in North East Lincolnshire and it's very near the ever so popular (not!) Cleethorpes. Grimsby is made up of various small villages, back streets, housing estates and street after street of terraced houses, of which a substantial amount are boarded up and so look absolutely lovely (!) The tower blocks aren't great either and unfortunetly they're probably the main feature of Grimsby as it's so tiny and the tower blocks are so big and ugly - they're the first thing that you see coming over from Grimsby towards Cleethorpes.
The town centre of Grimsby is horrible, it is full of loud and obnoxious chavs, drunks (most famously Ozzy, a bloke who walks around with dolls and chases pigeons) and other weirdo's - I am sure a majority of you will of heard about Claire Wilson, thepregnant girl who was stabbed to death in town by a maniac. The shops are all small and understocked and most of the staff in the shops are rude. The main feature would probably be Mcdonalds! That's how bad it is. The shopping centre Freshney Place is equally as rubbish, as anyone who read my review on it will know.
The docks, which the town is most likely the most well known for are desserted. The buildings are very run down and 90% are desserted and crumbling. There is the Young's tower which is very tall and ugly, and a few small factories. There is also a large white building with small windows which looks like a prison but apparently it is accomadation for the immigrants who work in the factories.
To be honest, Grimsby is awful. It stinks, and I mean literally - the smells that pour out of the billion food factories dotted around the town are disgusting! There is no night life in Grimsby worth mentioning, there's a few crappy bars which are quite honestly pathetic and on the few occasions I have been out and about on a Saturday night in Grimsby Town, i've been threatened by the local yobs, over charged and generally felt let down.
Grimsby's worse feature is probably a street called Freeman street which is run down and to be honest I would not walk down there alone. Nearby there is Riby Square, which is well known as a meeting place for the local prozzies and there's a brothel (Nicole's massage parlour). Near here is Ramsdens and Ramsdens toy store which I think are quite well known (?) They're honestly rubbish so if you have heard of them and are considering coming to Grimsby to have a shopping spree I wouldn't bothered - both stores are understocked and overpriced.
When it comes to the scenery of Grimsby it is grim. It always seems dull, grey and smelly. There's a few parks, including Weelsby Woods which has been done up to be all singing all dancing but all of the parks incuding weelsby woods are almost always full of abusive chavs and/or drunks so they ruin it completely, not to mention the amount of litter etc.
Grimsby lacks the basics, it's dull, boring and generally a horrible place to be. I know people who live in Grimsby will rate this review NH but I am just bein honest at the end of the day. Yes they have built a few new buildings here and there (a Uni, a new housing estate to replace a run down one, 2 new dr's buildings) but this simply isn't enough. In my opinion the whole town needs knocking down and rebuilding.
Summary: A horrible place
