Advantages: Businesses
Disadvantages: Not a nice place to bring up kids
I have lived in Hayes my whole life and if your thinking of moving here for whatever silly reason i would say do not bother.
Hayes is located in Middlesex (Greater London) 5 minute drive from Heathrow Airport, other nearby places include Uxbridge (end of the Picadilly line), Ruisclip, Watford isnt too far off!
Schools - There is a great variety of school based around Hayes, Personally I went to Harlington Community School on Pinkwell Lane, The school was great under the lead of headmaster Mr Targett, but was taken over in aroud 2000 mr Mr Sherman who led the school to fail an ofsted with a recovery plan. My sherman has retired this summer so hopefully new prospects await HCS. Other schools include Mellow Lane, Hayes Manor, nearby there is Vyners , Bishops Ramsey (very good school!), Harefield Academy (great sports school, my brothet attends is excellent!) and many many more.
Transport - I will state that the transport links in Hayes are great! there are buses going everywhere and night buses into central london, train station which goes to Paddington or Reading. Transport is easy around Hayes, bus fares are expected to be reduced which is great news. Id say its probably easier to travel by public transport although alike any it can get a bit packed and smelly!
Houses - Hayes has a lot of estates when in comparison to owned homes. If your looking to buy in Hayes your average 3 bedroom home will set you back about £250,000 however im pretty sure you can get better for less elsewhere.
Hayes Town Centre - The highlight of Hayes town centre is superdrug, other big stores include Wilkinsons, wh smiths, boots pharmacy and greggs, ooops and mcdonalds and subway! Its pretty much crappy shops selling sh*t hair extensions ans awful phone contracts! Better to go into Uxbridge where the Chimes holds host to more stores such as topshop, new look, river island etc...
Nightlife - Honestly there is none. Well theres a sleazy pub anmed the woolpack where women strip for 50p, and outback and skanky strip bar which is full of old men and perverts. If your going to go to a strip bar go somewhere where the dancers arent fat, chavvy or pig ugly!
Other than that theres a few local boozers, most popular is probably the brook house, has some great live music at weekends!
Local Talent - There are a few local bands out and about Hayes, My favourite being Undiscovered who you can catch the last Friday of every month at the Brook House in Hayes, great rock covers band! Theres Hayes and Yeading FC, not the worst small footy club, in the conference premiership ill have you know!
Local Footy - If you live in Hayes you should either support QPR, Chelsea (BOOO!!!), Fulham and ill amke allowances for spurs and arsenal. ny london club really but Chelsea and QPR are your west london teams!
Things Mums worry about - Hillingdon Hospital is the closest hospital, long waits not the dirtiest hospital though! A few park for the children to play, but supervised. Hayes pool for swimming lessons, Big Tescos in Hayes! and a bigger Sainsburys!
Asbos? - Lots of "chav" culture around Hayes, probably not completely safe to be walking alone in the Dark, as anywhere in that matter. Avoid estate areas. Best for homes to ahve burgular alarms, I have been burgled as has my gran whilst in the house, Gran was in Daylight. It is known for travellers to set up camp in Hayes which is not always great.
Business - Home of Heinz and Nestle. Theres are lots of different companies based around stockley park. Coca cola is based in Uxbridge. The airport is nearby laying host to thousands of working opportunities. Its not a place too effected by the recession thanks to Heathrow.
Overall I dislike Hayes, its Graffiti ridden and not the best place, Im moving away. If looking for something near look into Feltham, Uxbridge, Northolt, Ruislip, Pinner, Harrow. All alot better.
Summary: Just a nasty place to live, go spend money somewhere better
