I don’t live that far from Hemel Hempstead, So last week I decided to go there for a bit of shopping and just generally see what is going on there. Damn! Why did I bother? Marlows shopping centre: Virgin Mega (mini) store- only sells charts CDs and old videos, Staff are Argos rejects. NTL shop- do not buy anything NTL related or you will suffer for the rest of your contract. Clinton Cards x2- Why? Couple of sports shops- leading the way in mass market cheap sports clothing. Chitter Chatter- selling one2one products. Orange- yeah, if you want an Orange phone. Fake gadget shop- selling rubbish versions of Gadget shop goods H.Samuel- cheap gold and china shoes ?!?!?!? (What is that all about?) The list goes on for a little while longer, but I can’t remember much else. Main Street Blockbuster Video- yeah not bad. Burger King/ McDonalds- you know about them. Peter Percy- Suit Shop, This is where those guys from the Fast show work and they will touch your nuts. Allsports- No need to shop here. All the banks- good idea. Woolworths- has one member of staff and massive queues of customers with massive bags of pick & mix. Fusion- Bar during the day, night-club at night, Never been here as it is too small for me to bust some serious Breakdancing (so I have been told) Cant remember anything else as I stopped paying attention to the shops and tried to survive walking whilst being buzzed by kids on damn scooters!!!!! Jarmen Park: Ethos/Visage Night-clubs – one for the oldies, eighties pop / one for the kids, garage and r&b Fights galore!! Not decent ones, just the shouting and rolling on the floor types, girls in bikinis shouting “LEAVE IT KEVIN, IT AINT WURF IT” Bar/arcade/bowling- local DJ playing all the popular garage tunes while the kids drink themselves into ‘fight mode’ McDonalds- Food related fighting. Best to vi
sit here if you have an old Renault 5 or Ford Escort with badly tinted windows, this will ensure that you ‘fit in’ Dry Ski Slope: For all your dry skiing needs. Dacorum Pavilion: Usually for tribute bands and Pantomimes; however I saw Harry Hill here once and had a great evening. Water Gardens: Couple of lakes and benches, The flowers might be nice in the summer. Not very big and too near the road. The ‘Magic’ Roundabout: Not sure why this causes so much confusion, Its just a number of small roundabouts around a big round island, Watch out for newcomers to it!! Bovingdon Market: Go here to buy- Nokia Ringtones, Alloy Wheels, out of date chocolates, Mobile phone fascias, Candles, Cheap gold, Fake perfume, Dog Treats. Or To get a dose of listeria from a dirt burger. It gets very very busy here so please be aware that you must take with you a double push chair, half for the pack of dog food and the other half should be empty. All in all it wasn’t the best shopping experience I have ever had, so I shall not be going there again in a hurry. Please comment if you feel I have missed anything out or misrepresented in anyway.

- 24/11/08 This review made me laugh - poor old Hemel it always gets slated....(fsometimes for a good reason). Apart from Jarman's Park I do quite like Hemel! |
|
- 18/10/01 I think more about the town itself, and not just the shops would have been more useful. |
|
- 17/06/01 I live quite nearby as well. There's a half decent athletics track at Jarman Park if you're that way inclined... but other than that... spot on! |
