Advantages: in the country but with fast access to London, Cambridge, Peterborough and good motorway links, Good local history available, Many restaurants and pubs

Disadvantages: Not enough for teenagers to do, Not many places to stay in town

Hitchin is a town rich in history and architecture. It's position in North Hertfordshire made it a prominent trading town and staging post between London and Bedford.

Hitchin has a traditional market and is one of the oldest markets in the UK, still held on Tuesday and Saturday as has been done for Hundreds of years.

The town is laid out around a central market square which is overlooked by St Mary's church, one of the largest churches in Hertfordshire and second only to St Albans cathedral which is some indication of it's prominence in times past.

Hitchin is a pleasant town to visit and looks it's best on bright sunny days in summer - especially during the Hitchin Arts Festival and also during Christmas time when the architecture really gives a feeling of Christmas past.
