Better than Norwich? (Ipswich in General)

I'm a new resident of Ipswich. Having lived there now for about a month, I feel I can start to make some comments about life in the town.

Ipswich, for the geographically challenged, is "County Town" of Suffolk, and is located about half an hour from Colchester, and an hour from Norwich.

So apart from a premiership football team, what has Ipswich got to offer?

There is a good selection of shops and services in the town, ranging from the major high street chains, to some smaller independent retailers. The "Tower Ramparts" mall in the centre of town provides a good "rainy day" shopping solution, and there are some good out of town retail parks, such as "Ransoms Europark" and the development at Copdock off the A12.

The town has a good variety of pubs, encompassing both the traditional, and more modern types of watering hole. The dockside area is home to a particulary good vodka bar!

There are plenty of take-aways and resteraunts, so even the culinary inept, such as myself, will be able to ward off starvation! (there are some reasonable kebab shops....)

The locals are friendly, and the quality of life seems good so far. Ipswich has the advantages of urban living, such as the services - but is surrounded by a nice, rural environment for when you need to escape!
