Advantages: Friendly, Shopping is Central, Good Roads and Parking.

Disadvantages: Looks Dull

Kilmarnock.

A collection of 1960's labour government architecture set within a grey backdrop, drizzle was quite possibly invented here.

The town is well connected to the transport infrastructure of southwest Scotland, is within 30 minutes of glasgow and has good parking and rail links.

The bleak town centre sporting the usual non identity shops is pedestrianised and quite busy, there are street buskers and one or two donut vendors, at Christmas the salvation army provide the music to your experience along with one or two end is nigh maniacs.

The main mall, the Burns Mall at the top of the shopping area provides more of the same chains seen in every provincial town.

Serviced with enough eateries to keep you happy and a delicious trademark Killie Pie on sale in most places you should be well fed, they have a go kart track and bowling alley called the garage in grange street http://www.activitypoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/list.cgi?r= kilmarnock&e=1213(TheGarage), this is a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Kilmarnock football club are in the SPL and usually finish around the lower half of the table but they are quite an entertaining side and have achieved more than some wealthier teams even winning the Scottish Cup for the third time in 1997.

The town is in the midst of an economic depression at the moment with Diageo the whiskey bottling plant closing down and shedding 700 jobs in the interest of making more money, the petition can be accessed at http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/29112.html

Walking along the streets you will note the sad beaten broken faces in a place with little to offer work wise and all the the problems hanging over them.

Should you visit, A recent national survey voted it the friendliest shopping town in the UK. It is, there is a genuine niceness to the people and the shops are bright and friendly inside so it just goes to show, you can take the jobs but you cant take that resilience and fighting spirit.

Summary: Its worth a visit, you'l enjoy their company.

'sad beaten broken faces' reminds me of my own neighbourhood...
