Kyle of Lochalsh is a village situated in the North West of Scotland. The village is set on the coast and is in the county of Wester Ross. Many people pass through this village on the way to the Isle of Skye, there is a road bridge that goes to the island from here. The village only has a population of around one thousand people however it can often seem much bigger as this is a popular place for tourists to visit. The village is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and many people come to visit to admire the surrounding countryside.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the village then you may struggle a little. The only real hotel is the Kyle hotel which is of a good standard and has a decent reputation. Other than this there really is no where else to stay. However there are many lovely holiday homes in the area that can be rented. Some of these are set in some wonderful surroundings and they are great places to stay if you like the wild countryside of this area. There are also some really good wild camping spots in the area if you are willing to rough it.
The little villages does not tend to have to much going on. There is a decent sized supermarket which people come to from miles around to do there shopping. There are a few tourist shops that offer local arts and crafts and some good Scottish souvenirs. The village also has a few nice pubs which serve good quality food and a good choice of drinks, the locals in the town always seem to be friendly and you should always get a warm welcome.
The village has a few things to see and do. There is a lovely little marina in the village which is interesting to look around and there is often something going on here. You can usually take boat trips out around the isles and these are great for seeing some of the local marine wildlife. Nearby the town is the famous Eilean Donan Castle, this is one of the most spectacular settings for a castle you will ever see. This castle has featured in many films and pictues and it is instantly recognisable. It's a great place to have a look round and provides some excellent photo opportunities.
There are also a few nice little villages around Kyle of Lochalsh. Plockton is a lovely place to visit and there is a nice restaurant here. There are lots of other places in the area worth a visit. The main reason people come here is for the scenery. The rugged coastline is fill of sandy beaches and rocky coves, there are some great places to explore. The mountains in this area are also a big attraction, some of the peaks in the nearby Glen Shiel Pass are amazing and attract walkers from all over the country. There is also a good range of wildlife in the area, you often spots deer on the roadside or see a golden eagle soaring over head.
Although Kyle of Lochalsh is a very remote village it really is a magical place to visit if you get the chance. Next time you are in the North West of Scotland you really must go and give the village a visit.
