If you read the brilliant novel 'Angela´s Ashes' by Frank McCourt, it might be interesting to take part in a guided tour to the streets,squares and pubs where the novel took place. The worst slums however are removed by now. Enjoy a walk at the River Shannon and take a look at the castle. You are fed up of 40 different kind of green in beautiful Kerry, Clare or any other Western Irish county? No problem. Just have a day trip to the City of Limerick as a contrast. The third biggest city of the Republic of Ireland has about 100.000 inhabitants, the city centre has a chess board like architecture, similar to New York City.
