TRAVELLING
Not having a car, our family find it hard to find nice places to go on holiday to. My mums friend has a sister that lives in Llandudno and he visits every year in the May bank holiday. It is very easy to get to. We live in Liverpool and Llandudno is in North Wales so it is not far away at all. We get the train from Liverpool to Chester and then another train from Chester to Llandudno.
THE TOWN
The town itself is very small. It is on the edge of a small mountain called The Great Orme. This means everything is uphill (or downhill depending on which direction you are going). It is also on the coast and has a long promenade and a gorgeous looking beach.
THE PIER
Llandudno pier is the longest pier in Wales and the fifth longest in England and Wales. There are Penny Arcades at either end of the pier. My family is addicted to these. My bigger brother loves the Indiana Jones Pinball Machine at the top one. At the end there is a pier bar and a cafe. Along the pier are many crafty shops which I love browsing around. There are also a couple of little rides for the children (and if I remember rightly, a hook a duck!). The pier is great to walk along on a sunny day with the blue sea glittering beneath you.
THE GREAT ORME
This has to be one of the biggest attractions in Llandudno. There are four ways to get to the top of the Orme. Obviously you can walk. There are many ways to do this. My brothers actually circumnavigated the orme once! They came back very sunburnt! You can drive up as there is a carpark at the top. There are cablecars but these don't run if it is in any way windy. These take you over the ski slope (yep, in north wales) and toboggan. My favourite way to get up is the tram. This takes you to the half way house. In the half way house it shows you how the trams work, it is like a tiny museum. You then get on another tram which takes you to the top. Also, at the half way house, there is a bronze age mine which you can go in. At the top of the Orme there are spectacular views as there is sea to the left and the right. If you look the other way you can see snowdonia. It really is amazing. There is a giant play area for the kids and a cafe and bar for the adults. There is also another penny arcade and a giftshop along with a museumy bit.
SHOPPING
We go to Llandudno every year to do our christmas shopping. There are some strange shops. I love the witchy shop (I cant remember what it is called). There are many cheap bookshops and clothes shops. There are also high street shops and a giant complex with a debenhams, bowling and more.
VICTORIAN EXRAVAGANZA
This is on every year when we go on the first bank holiday in May (this year it was May 3rd - 5th). The extravaganza celebrates the towns victorian heritage. There are old fashioned and new rides, stalls and entertainment. There is also a parade with old fashioned steam engines. It is normal on this weekend to see random people walking down the street in full victorian attire!
FOOD
There are many restaurants in Llandudno. There is a lovely Meditterranean restaurant at the top of Mostyn Street which we eat in everytime. There are also a couple of italians and indians which are delicious. There is a Fish and Chip restaurant on the corner which gave me severe food poisoning one year. It is called Tribells. We often eat in the Wetherspoons which is great (it is inside an old theatre, definately something to see!). We also eat in The Albert which is right near the train station and The Kings Head which is by the tram station.
HOTELS
There loads of hotels here. We stay in The Warwick Hotel which is on Church Street but there are loads to choose from. For more information see http://www.visitllandudno.com/home.php.
