I was a victim of an attempted mugging tonight, and I have to give a massive thumbs up to the police force for the way they handled the incident.

The Incident:
It was about an hour ago from now (3.54am), when a friend of mine and I were walking down a the street to my house, and when we were only 50 yards away this guy approached us, first being friendly (but you knew where this was going) and then he went hostile, he just wanted a little change for a taxi home - we explained we had no cash on us, of course we were lying, but anyway he didn't believe us and started to push us around (there was two of us), after he threw me to a lamppost I managed to run to the other side of the road and started to dial the police on my mobile. Once he heard that I was asking for the police he made a run for it. About 5 minutes later the police turned up (although it seem like a life time).

The officer took time to make sure that we were all right; his primary concern was to check if we were injured in anyway - luckily we were not. And he slowly went through the whole ordeal with us, noting every detail we gave to him and repeating it to make sure he had it right. After that an initial description was sent out to his fellow officers in the area did find a couple of likely suspects, and then he arranged for a drive by so I could ID the suspects, due to the shock of the incident, I wasn't 100% sure if these guys did it - 90%, but in my mind that was not beyond reasonable doubt! With that he returned me back to my flat, went through the details one more time, offered me access to a Victim Support Group, and didn't leave until I was safe inside my flat. All in all, they looked after me very well, as you can imagine I was fairly shocked at the time.


Conclusion: If there is the opposite to the Police Complaints Authority (i.e. the Police Praise Authority, I'd like to know about it - these guys did all they could!)
