Advantages: good shopping, fun weekend, lots to do

Disadvantages: none

I went to London in 2000 for a short summer UK break because I hadn't been and it seemed like a lovely city. I booked the train which didn't cost that much and then after a 4 hour journey arrived in London King's Cross.

I was staying at a youth hostel in St Pancras so it was quite central and near an underground with all the main lines running nearby. As soon as I got unpacked I went down to recption and found out I could buy tickets for attractions there to skip the queues.

I decided to go to Madame Tussaud's and by paying with the hostel I got a discount. I got the underground here which is easy to get around then arrived. It was a long queue but because I had paid for the tickets I went right in and that was it. It was excellent seeing famous people in such life like was work models, probably the nearest I will get to any of them. Some of the models speak and I got my picture taken with many. This is never too overcrowded because they only let so many in at a time.

I liked the way everything was set out in here by theme such as tv, there was then the royal family and then musicians so it was good to have everyone at their right part. The only thing is not many musicians are here because they are at the rock circus which again is more money.

At night time the night life was mostly in Picaddily Circus so I ate out here at places like Planet Hollywood and The Rainforest Cafe. The food here is great and it was a great place inside so much work to it.

The underground runs until about 12 at night so it's actually quite late you can stay out.

The other places I visited here were London Dungeon. This was quite hard to get to for me because I got off a stop before and ended up having to walk over Tower Bridge but it was an ok day. I again got to skip the queue here because I had paid for it. This was quite sick at some parts but still an interesting place with many fun parts to it. The boat ride
is really good although I found it quite scary. There are souvenir shops at the end of every attraction.

The Rock Cirus is where I went on my last day again more waxwork models. These were mostly people I knew and I like music and so I knew everyone. I took a lot of pictures and they had handprints which were signed also. There were some shows to watch and most people were nice apart from a woman that shouted at me when I asked her something.

Other places I and things I did were go shopping! I spent lots of money and the shopping here is brillinat I visited Harrod's went to Oxford Street and all of my other favourite shops. I also went to see Buckingham Palace and before I forget at the time I went the Millenium Dome was there so I had a look even though it was nothing impressive.

I had a look atplaces like Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and I know this sounds quite stupid but after Monopoly I know all of the streets and it was weird to see places. I got many pictures taken here and had an enjoyable weekend. I will definitely come back here for shopping trips.

I am watching a man p****d walking down the street as I write this (totally irrelevant I know!) Nice to read this as I plan on going later in the year. Only I cant jump on the train - I have to fly across on plane. Also useful to know you can get cheap tickets for attractions at Youth Hostels as I plan on staying in one. Which one did you stay in and what did you think?

Didn't realise you could get tickets at the hotel you stayed at. Wonder if other places do that too?
It's quick to get a joint ticket with from the Planetarium and sit through the show, then go into Madame Tussards.
Thanks, C.
