Advantages: Lots of interesting places nearby, Manchester is close for shopping , A town within the countryside

Disadvantages: Not much for young people, Have to be in night clubs before 10:30, Most late bars and clubs are 21s

Macclesfield used to be a beautiful town, of old mills, rolling hills and Sunday markets. All of a sudden it seemed to take a turn for the worse and went steadily downhill, with high rise flats, grafitti and scallies popping up on every corner.
This is the town I was born in and I am glad to say that it looks as though things are on the up. Although Macclesfield (or Macc as it is known to locals) council is probably the most useless one in the whole of the world, things are eventually changing and the town is beginning to look like a nice place to live once more.

A short history and story of Macc and then the good and bad points and places to go.

Macclesfield was origionally a market town where local farmers went to sell their produce. Its market was famous and people came from all around to buy top quality goods from traders. The silk industry moved to Macc and many mills and factories grew up in its centre making it a boming industrial centre. Macclesfield Silk was one of the most luxurious fabrics of its day and the remnants of the industry can still be seen at the Silk Heratige Museum. As the people from the town centre grew richer they moved further out and the town spread across a wide area until it became the bustling place it is today. This relation to silk has helped to earn the town the nickname Silktown, its footballteam are called teh Silkmen and its radio station is called SilkFM.

The town also has the nickname of Treacle Town for an event that happened over 100 years ago. A wagon containing treacle was travelling through the town when it overturned and spilt its contents all over the street. The road was washed with treacle and all the town came with jugs and bowls to fill.

*No evening bus link with Manchester and too expensive for a taxi home

*Nthing to do for young people
*Not many good shops

Places to go and things to see

*the piece of meteor or iceage boulder in West Park
*the museum in West Park
*the silk heratige museum
*the old sunday school
*joderall bank is nearby
*styal mill is nearby
*the canal is nice on a summers day
*sparrow park at the top of a hill created where they buried the bodies of plague victims in the black death
*the Millstone Pub opposite the train station

There are loads more things I could tell you about this beautiful town, like the famous people who live near here (Gary Barlow, Posh and Becks and Noddy Holder) also the famous people who come from here,the famous people who have died here and much more besides. But that would leave me going on forever. Ther best thing you can do is visit the place yourself, well worth the visit!
