Advantages: Large student population, making it cheap(as far as spending is concerned), Numerous places to shop and eat, Excellent transport system
Disadvantages: some areas have a high crime rate, Very few R'n'B clubs , Many things are meant for students only eg bar offers
Champions, champions, ole! ole! ole !...oops the football seasons not even on yet!Well, thought i'd give you some sounds of manchester. Its a Pity i cant give you some of the sights on here, because truly this is a wonderful city.I have lived in manchester for a little over six years now,and have been to most places.
As a student i normally festered around the fallowfield area, reknowned for its numerous pubs which had mind boggling offers to students. This was quite good for me as i was within crawling distance of my hall of residence :-).
Manchester is known to have the largest student concentration, there being 4 large universities and a number of colleges in a very small area. Thus you are bound to mingle with people from all over the world, making it a very culturally rich city.
About half a mile from fallowfield is rusholme, also known as the 'curry mile',because of the very many curry houses and cheap eats it contains..for...er..i think a mile!A wonderful place to shop for fresh produce too.
When i left university,i had time to venture into other parts of manchester, like stockport, bolton and salford to mention but a few. These are places with their own unique atmosphere, nightlife and attractions, thus one can never get bored of being in manchester at all.
The city centre, picadilly, which is the central business district, has major shopping areas like the Arndale centre, debenhams, major supermarkets like tesco and asda.Theres also the gay village, the largest one outside london and the china town where you can get the popular All-you-can-eat-for-a-fiver deals.Manchester isn't complete without the mention of the trafford centre,at one time the largest shopping mall in the north. This is located 15 minutes away from town,in the trafford area.
The transport in manchester is very good on most routes, with buses running well into the wee hours of morning.Buses offer money saving travel tickets, and students can buy term
tickets as well, which are well worth it.
Housing in manchester is abundant, and one needs only to open the daily paper,or look on the window of a news agent,to see vacancies announced. The same applies to jobs, laundry facilities and sales.
Theres also some down sides to manchester. The crime being one of them. There are areas like hulme, moss side and longsight which are notorious for shootings, muggings and house break-ins.Some areas in salford are known to harbour racial tension. But these are being handled very well by the police force, whose presence has increased in many areas of manchester.
Before i conclude, you need to remember that this city will be holding the commonwealth games next year.
In a nutshell therefore, this is a well balanced city, which can cater for all tastes, lifestyles and moods.
