Advantages: High chance of being put out of your misery
Disadvantages: Misery itself.
I have been living in Manchester now for 2 weeks and already I have found myself really despising the place. The thing is its full of unfriendly morons who have no manners and all. Take for instance you're walking along the street and you're in a rush to get somewhere, if someone is in your way they really won't let you by unless you walk onto the incredibly dangerous road. Seriously they'd rather see you flattened on the road then move out of your way but if they do move out of your way its like they're doing you a big favour.
That's not the particularly bad part of it though. The bad part is that the place is full of a bunch of crooks. I mean it my friend even got her mobile and her other stuff stolen from her locker in the staff room of McDonalds. It wasn't like it was left open or anything either, it actually had a lock on and all, but some crook that worked there broke the lock off and stole her stuff.
Since the place is full of crooks you're not supposed to go out or you'll die or something according to the cops around here who gave us about 6 lectures about it on Freshers week. According to one of my lecturers he's known students that have been kidnapped and beaten up and had all there cash and stuff taken from them. Anyways that's why I feel like I can't even go out at night by myself which I hate. In my hometown you could go out really late at night by yourself and walk around the streets and you wouldn't get mugged or anything. I really liked doing that too, but now I can't do it because you're only supposed to go out with a bunch of people which defeats the point seeing as I only do it when I want to be alone.
The worse thing about this place is that I don't really know anyone. I mean only one of guy from my town that I don't know so hot, is in Manchester, but he's at a different University so I don't see him unless I call him up. Anyways because I don't know
anyone that well it makes me feel lonesome as hell, its even made me cry, it really has. I don't know why but this one time I was making a pie in the oven and I left it too long or something, so my flatmates knocked on the door and told me it was burnt. I got in the kitchen and the whole bunch of them thought it was real funny and they were practically killing themselves laughing. It didn't bother me though what bothered me was that my pie was burnt so I chucked it in the bin. Then I was going to look for something else to eat but all of a sudden I didn't feel like eating or anything, so I went back to my room. I swear I don't know why but when I was in my room I started to cry really bad. I mean I was really crying like a big baby and I couldn't stop for a while either, I just kept thinking about how much I hated this place.
Anyways it is really a lonesome place and everyone seems to think I'm some real madman or something. I mean if I turn up to lectures when my hair is wet, I always wear my hat. According to my dad I looked like a real Manchester thug with it on and one of my flat mates told me I looked like a robber when I had it on and took out the garbage once. Anyway when my hair is wet I wear it to my lectures like a madman and I swear to you that everyone avoids me. They really do. Honest I'll sit in an empty row and all the others will fill up except mine and what will happen is that a couple of people will sit in my row but about 6 seats away from me. It doesn't bother me though, I actually think its funny considering they're probably the big time crooks. The real funny thing is if my hair is dry then I don't wear my hat and what really kills me is that people actually will sit next to me and even talk to me.
Another thing that really sucks about Manchester is that all the drinks are outrageously high priced. I mean apparently the beers and lager are quite cheap but that's no good to me because I ha
te beer and lager. The thing is I only like spirits and that is what is priced really high here. I mean on average the pubs and clubs usually sell you a Jack Daniels and coke for around £2.15. A real rip off as in my town the average was like £1.60 but you could buy it for as little as £1.20 in some places. The cheapest I have bought it here is for £1.35 and that was at the Students Union, only it wasn't my Students Union, it was the University of Manchester's Stundents Union. My Students Union sells you a Jack Daniels and coke for £1.65 a lot less than everywhere else but considering its a Student bar they should sell it as much as they do at the other one.
Everytime you go out for a drink in Manchester you always seem to end up in some pub or club that plays music you really hate. I mean I really hate pop and dance but that's just about the only places I can find here.
What is really bad about Manchester is all the prices and everything. I mean they charge you a hell of a lot for practically nothing they really do. The thing is you don't know how much some of the things are going to cost you because the crooks make sure there is no price on the things.
If you buy take-aways here you always get a lot less than you'd expect for how much you paid.
Anyways I really hate Manchester, not only for the reasons I've listed but for a whole lot of them, only they're too small to go into and you probably wouldn't understand or care anyways.
