Nice Little Coastal Town

Minehead is a coastal town located in the South West of England. The town lies at the top end of the Bristol Channel and is in the county of Somerset. Minehead has a population of just over ten thousand people, however due to this being a popular spot for tourists it can get much busier in the summer months. There is some stunning scenery in this area, Exmoor National Park is close by and this is a beautiful place that attracts many visitors. There has been a port at Minehead for over six hundred years and for a long period of time this was a major port in the South of England. Now most of the trade has moved on to larger towns and cities but the port is still used for a few different purposes.
If you are planning a trip to Minehead and want somewhere to stay then you have plenty of choice. When it comes to hotels there are quite a few to choose from, some of the larger more well established ones include The Northfield Hotel (Best Western) and Glendower House. These both have good reputations for nice rooms and good service. There are also a few small bed and breakfasts and some guesthouses in the town. There is also a Butlins holiday park in Minehead. This is ideal for families as there is lots to keep children entertained and there is entertainment on in the evenings. There are also lots of privately owned holiday homes in this area which are ideal if you are looking for self catering accommodation.
Minehead is a good place to visit for a wander round the shops. There are plenty of practical shops aimed at locals, things like supermarkets and chemists, but there are also quite a few shops aimed at tourists. The Castle Gate Gallery and the Millwheel Gallery are both interesting places to look round and sample some of the local art work. There are also a few good antique shops that are great for browsing round. There are also a few shops selling local crafts and gifts and other souvenirs from the area, these are sometimes seasonal shops so you may find they are closed in the summer months.
There are a few nice attractions around Minehead. The Exmoor Falconry & Animal Farm is a great place to visit with the children, they have some great displays here and it really is a good day out. There is also Dunster castle which is situated in a beautiful woodland area and is well worth a look round. The beach is also a big attraction, a long stretch of golden sand is ideal for families, the sea tends to be quite calm as the Bristol Channel protects the beach from the Atlantic, this means there are ideal conditions for windsurfing and other water sports.
Minehead really is a great town that people have been visiting for many years. There are some excellent attractions in this area and some wonderful scenery. If you have never had the opportunity of visiting this town then you are missing out, next time you think about paying Somerset a visit make sure you give Minehead a visit.
Summary: Good Place To Visit
