Good for Golfers, Pleasant but Undescript for Anybody Eles (Monifieth)

Monifieth is a small town on the coast of the Firth of Tay, located on the outskirts of Dundee, 9 miles away from the centre, beyond Broughty Ferry and towards Carnoustie and Arbroath.

It is more a less a suburb, or a satellite of Dundee (although it's actually located in the county of Angus) and it has function as such since its significant development during the Dundee's heyday as an industrial powerhouse (although people have settled in Monifieth since the Pictish times).

The town used to be a popular coastal destination (some Dundee people went for their summer holiday to Monifieth) and there is still a large caravan park with many static caravans and several hotels. The Monifieth beach apparently used to be huge but since the currents in the Tay have changed it became narrower and at high tide it tends to be reduced to a narrow strip - but when the tide is low, it's a magnificent stretch of sand ideal for wading about on.

In recent years Monifieth acquired an excellent adventure play (called The Blue seaway) park in the freshly developed sea-side area near the caravan park (there is also a skate & bike area for teenagers).

Apart from the coast (which, in all honestly, has nothing particularly special about it - there are better beaches not much further north, for example in Carnoustie or Lunan Bay), the main attraction of Monifieth is the golf: something of an overspill from Carnoustie, the town has two golf courses and several hotels that cater to golfers.

Monifieth is fairly close to good country parks at Monikie and Crombie (there is a bus connection to Monikie).

All in all, it's a reasonable place to stay if you need accommodation in the area, but unless you come for golf or have personal connections, there is no reason to do so.
