Advantages: Cheap, Cheerful
Disadvantages: In decline
Although I wouldn't recomend a stay in Morecambe for much longer than a weekend, unless you have a car, Morecambe is still a good place to visit.
Morecambe has sadly seen a recent decline, after the opening of the new market, stores and a new cinema, it has once again slumped. Frontierland, the once popular amusemnt park has been bulldozed, bubbles the open air swimming pool has been closed for months, but appart from that it is still a nice place.
Close by is the city of Lancaster with its Historic Castle and Other attractions and further North is the Lake District. Both are accesable by car and by rail and would make great day trips, just as morecambe would from these places.
Morecambe's newest crowd puller after the death of the illuminations is the statue of Eric Morecambe, who lived in and took his name from the town. Other famous residents, present and former include Dame Thora Hird, Gail from Correnation Street and Italian Fascist Benito Mussolini (a local rumour)
Harts Cafe is a popular sea front cafe and was a major set for the film 'the entertainer'
Morecambe is sadly now a downmarket Blackpool but don't write it off just yet.
