Advantages: Great for kids on a warm day

Disadvantages: Nothing to do if it rains

Morecambe used to be a fun little town with plenty to entertain young children but it started to go down hill about twenty years ago. Although it is a place I used to like going to I stopped because it was getting so seedy and unpleasant. Infact it appeared dirty and run down.

In recent years there has been a change in Morecambe. The beach has been cleaned up and that is still in the process. There's a nice open air swimming pool on the promenade which also has a decent restaurant/coffee bar. A little further down the prom is a childrens boating pool and play area with coffee/snack bar whic is sheltered from the wind and quite pleasant if you want to allow your children to play but still be able to watch them.

The bowling alley is clean and bright and you can get reasonable priced food and drinks there too. Accross the road from the bowling alley is a family pub with childrens play facilities. This is bright and new but I'm afraid the name of it escapes me at present!

Frontierland is a theme park but don't expect it to be the same as Blackpool amusements or Alton Towers. Its small and compact but there are rides and other things for all ages.(I find that most things at Blackpool are not suitable for little children.)

The old market was a real eyesore but it has been closed down and a new purpose built market building now occupies part of the carpark behind Hitchins store. I didn't find the markey particularly worth visiting although several coach firms in the area run trips to Morecambe market.

There are lots of little shops and cafes just off the front which are very cheap if you are feeding a family. There isn't really a lot to do if the weather is bad in Morecambe but on a bright and sunny day its a great place for younger children.
