Advantages: Seafront, Nice icecream, Eric Morecombe statue
Disadvantages: Ghost Town, Closed, Derelict
Have never been to Morecombe before but while on Holiday in Blackpool decided to go and have a look.
A lot of money has been spent on the promenade which is really really nice but for a peak holiday week on a Saturday afternoon there were hardly any people about!!!
Walked along the promenade and had my photo taken with the Eric Morecombe statue.
The shops leave a lot to be desired - the once famous Frontierland is a pile of rubble but it was the shops by the Bowling Alley that were a bafflement - they all still had fixture and fittings in them but notices on the doors - "Closed until further notice" and "The landlord has secured theses premises".
There is an old hotel on the seafront which had big notices about an exciting Future Development into a luxury hotel with health club and inviting you to go and look at the visitor centre accross the road - that too "Closed Until Further Notice".
It looked like everyone from all these buildings had decided that morning to up and go like as if an asteroid was about to hit Morecombe or something and they have all had to evacuate.
Seems to me like Morecombe was a nice holiday in the past and could be again perhaps one day but these goings on re just plain wierd!
