Advantages: scenery, location, atmosphere
Disadvantages: no tube line
Muswell Hill is situated in North London, and is a great suburb. Whilst it is not too far away from central london, with direct bus routes, it does not feel as though you are right in the centre. Unfortunately there is not an underground directly in Muswell Hill, however a walk down the Fortis Green Road gets you to East Finchley, which is on the northern line.
It is a fairly quiet suburb with trees and pretty surroundings. The area is quite upmarket with quite a few speciality shops, such as Melbury & Appleton, Planet Organic, SpaceNK etc. There is also the more common Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencers, which are of quite a good size to do your grocery shopping. I personally enjoy going to Muswell Hill to get gifts from some of the unique little shops, or to browse the numerous charity shops, which are not that sparingly found in the more central london.
There are also numerous restaurants in Muswell hill, which make for a great place to have a bite to eat. Fast food chains are limited, with there only being a KFC. There is not a great deal of night life in regards to clubbing, however there are quite a few pubs including a lovely O'Neills, and the Village which is pretty busy on the weekends.
A short walk away from Muswell Hill is Alexandra Park and Palace, which is a great place to see spectacular views of London, have a picnic in the park, or go for a row in the boating lake. I personally regularly visit with friends as it is a great place to relax, and makes for a pretty cheap day/evening.
Another short walk away is Highgate woods, which I visited a few months ago when we were having some snowy weather. The woods were wonderous and with the addition of the snow made everything bright and defined.
Summary: a great little place!
