Advantages: Great shops, restaurants and beaches
Disadvantages: Not easy access for elderley or less abled people
I first visited Newquay as a child with my parents and recently returned there with my own family and it hasn't changed one bit. Though quite a drive (it took us over 3 hours drive and that was from the Midlands) but well worth it. Newquay is located in the South West of England on the North Atlantic coast of Cornwall. It is a relatively small seaside town that has become more and more popular with British Holidaymakers over the last few years.
ATTRACTIONS:
Newquay is famed for its surfing beaches (especially Fistral Beach) with thousands of surfers flocking to the shores annually to try the best surf in the country. The nightlife has also become popular in recent years with many stag and hen nights being taken in Newquay (you can see some very interesting sites should you visit the town centre on a Friday or Saturday night!) with the most popular clubs being Sailors and Berties. If you have children you may want to avoid this part of town in the evenings as can get a bit rowdy!
The shops are really good mixture of quaint cornish gift shops as well as your larger clothing chains such as New Look and Dorothy Perkins etc with a larger indoor shopping centre towards the quieter end of town as well as plenty of cafes and restaurants, amusement arcades and a small fair for children.
The harbour is always a really nice place to walk around at night and you can see the fishing boats coming back in from their days work with their catch and look around the lifeboats. Really fascinating.
DISADVANTAGES
I would not recommend Newquay for those who are disabled or less abled. Whilst the town itself is pretty flat to get down to the majority of the beaches and the harbour there are generally hundreds of steps as the main part of the town is located on cliff tops with the beaches situated in alcoves within the cliffs. Some stunning scenery but can get pretty tiring. However if you travel a mile or so out of Newquay away from the harbour there are a couple of beaches that you can drive onto or that only have a couple of steps.
BEACHES:
The beaches in Newquay are really clean and always litter free. They are always manned by lifeguards too so you know your little ones are safe. Golden sand and if you stay on the beaches towards the quieter end of town the sea is a lot calmer too than that of the surfing beaches so your little ones will be safer.
One recommendation i would make is to not visit whilst the Royal Cornwall Show is on. We did this and sat in traffic for 2.5 hours moving only 1/4 mile such is the traffic volume when this is on. Nice show to look around just try and avoid having to pass the show on your journey as it can become very frustraing. Alternative route recommended if it is on the week you visit (generally this show is on first week in June for 3 days).
In summary i love Newquay. Typical British seaside town yet clean and tidy and plenty to do if the British weather lets you down.
Summary: A great British Holiday
