My home City and a great place to visit.
Its funny yo never really know how much you like where you live until your away for a while. Any body coming to Ireland I would recommend a short stay or a long stay here in Newry City.
Accommodation; there are plenty of B&B's and there are 3 hotels in the the City, Canal Court Hotel..great place a little bit pricey but an excellent choice, one of the best hotels in Ireland.
Mourne Country Hotel..On the outskirts about 5 minutes drive from the City centre and a value hotel along the lines of premier inns and stuff like that.
Francis Court Hotel..small hotel situated above the Relic nightclub, at weekends this is primarily used by revellers.
If staying in the City isint what you are looking there are hotels and B&B's a plenty in the Newry and Mourne area.
Eating and drinking. Newry has a lot of pubs that serve up great food and a good pint, from Bellini's and The Bank to the Quayside all these are great places to eat and drink.
If its a pint and and some craic you are looking for McGiugans, McSwiggans and McCoy's are just a few traditional pubs in the City.
If its just food you want there is an abundance in our City, we have some of the big chains but fast food in Newry is dominated by two places, La Dolce Vita and Friar Tucks. For a healthy meal at a restaurant there are a dew nice ones in Newry, Sappori, Indian Spice, Bamboo we really have something for everyone.
Shopping..There are lots of places to shop in Newry but the two mainstays are the Quays and Buttercrane shopping centres, with over 120 stores between them they have shoppers from all over Ireland flocking here and with the fantastic Euro rates on offer it is a great place for the southern bargain hunter.
There is also a lot to do in Newry, in the City itself we have a 10 screen cinema, a fantastic Cathedral and Bagnals castle and museum to visit. For those interested in Irish history you can visit Narrow Water castle. If you are sporting our county side Down play in a 24000 capacity stadium at Greenbank, matches are regular during the summer and prices are around £15, double check downgaa.com for fixtures, the soccer club are Newry City and the place in a 7000 capacity stadium just beside the Down pitch again check www.newrycityfc.com for fixtures. There is an abundance of golf in Newry, from the pitch and putt at Clouguhe to Warrenpoint golf course you are spoilt for choice. There are also tennis courts on the Warrenpoint road which are fully floodlit.
The choices in Newry are amazing and to think I haven't mentioned the sprawling Mourne Mountains yet. They are amazing and can be a great camping trip in its self.
Give us a visit we a re welcoming and hospitable and look forward to sharing a pint of Guinness with you.
Summary: A super welcoming place to come to..Come join us!!
