Newton Abbot (England)
Advantages: Nice Place
Newton Abbot is a market town located in the South West of England. The town sits on the river Teign and is in the county of Devon. There have been people living on this site for close to two thousand years, the town has a rich heritage and an interesting history. The town has a population of around twenty four thousand people, yet as this part of the country is very popular with tourists it can get a lot busier in the summer months. There is so much this little town has to offer visitors and people have been coming here for many years.
If you are looking to stay in Newton Abbot then there are a few good options when it comes to hotels. There is a Best Western Hotel known as The Queens Hotel, there is also the Passage House Hotel and The Moorlands Hotel. These all have good reputations and offer a good standard of rooms and service. There are also a few little bed and breakfasts and guesthouses in the town that are of a good standard. Another option is to stay in privately owned holiday homes, there are a few of these in the town and also some in the surrounding area, these are ideal if you want to go self catering. There are also a few nice camp sites in this area which are perfect if you are looking for a cheap option.
The town has plenty to offer in the way of shopping. As you would expect from a town of this size there are supermarkets and other large shops that are really aimed at the locals. But there are also shops offing locals are and crafts and souvenirs, one shop that children will enjoy is Marbles, this is a toy shop that is well worth a visit. Some other shops that are ideal for visitors include Magpies, Say it with Angels and Mystic World. These are perfect if you are hunting for gifts. Newton Abbot also has a large market, this is a great place to visit if you are after some bargains or local produce, there is always a good atmosphere at the market and you can have a barter with the locals.
Newton Abbot has some very impressive buildings that will interest some people. In the centre of the town there is St Leonard's Tower which is a very impressive building that was first constructed in the 12th century. There is also an amazing public library building which again is a stunning piece of architecture. One popular building is Ye Olde Cider Bar, this is supposedly one of only two working cider houses in the UK, this is well worth a visit.
There are plenty of things to do in this town and plenty of lovely places to visit in this area of Devon. This part of England is well known for it's countryside and many people enjoy spending there summer here. If you have never had the opportunity of visiting Newton Abbot then you are missing a treat. Next time you are heading for Devon make sure you stop off and have a look.
