Advantages: lots to do, easy access everywhere via buses, some areas are really nice
Disadvantages: increasing number of vandalism, muggings, attacks etc
I happen to live in Peterborough and have done all my life and i cant wait to get out.
Peterborough is a city, which contains a cathedral, many shops, a shopping centre called Queensgate, a key theatre, many nightclubs, pubs, indoor and outdoor pools, schools, regional college, restaurants, a museum and 2 cinemas to name a few. It also has a job centre, though avoid if possible - they arent very nice in there!
Peterborough used to be a really safe place, but just lately over the last couple of years, it has become very unsafe. There has been alot of vandalism, criminal offences, robberies, muggings and murders. Though i suppose every city has its share of these horrible things. I dont feel safe walking the streets at night as i used to - even if im with some friends. You just dont know what might happen!
Peterborough's Queensgate centre has alot of shops, including Top Shop, BHS, Link, Boots, Waitrose, Clinton Cards, Millies Cookies, Lunn Poly, Thomas Cooks, New Look, Next, Sports shops, Dixons, Marks and Spencers, Virgin, Superdrug and John Lewis etc. There are also many eateries inside the centre. There is also a rather large bus station at the bottom of the centre with buses going to and from various locations around Peterborough during the day. Some buses have had complaints about them not turning up. This has happened to me before!
Outside the centre, there are loads of shops, such as Woolworths, Charity shops, HMV, Sports Soccer, JD Sports, Sports Warehouse, What everyone wants, Asda and The Bakers Oven.
There is also a McDonalds and a Burger King located in the town centre. You will also find many pubs and restaurants there too.
There is also a museum, which does ghost walks on Tuesday nights, where the tour leader takes you around different parts of Peterborough and talks about the ghost spots and the haunted places. But you would have to go to Peterborough homepage to find out more information on the t
Peterborough city centre has a few nightclubs such as Liquid, Break for the border and Chicago Rock (also an internet cafe). The city also has a bowling centre, where you can play bowling, mini arcade games and a place for eating. There is also a odeon near the city centre, which has been on the news, as it has all been done up and everything looks better, but that is quite expensive to go to.
There is also a showcase cinema, but i am getting fed up with the people you have to share a cinema with. If you want to go to the cinema, then avoid night showings like after 9pm. This is because everynight my boyfriend and i go to watch a movie, it is always unpleasant. We went to watch Austin Powers 3 last sunday, and there were these gangs in there that were shouting loudly throughout the whole showing. These yobs need babysitting. I think they should have a member of staff sitting in on the shows to supervise the unruly. W have had to put up with this chilish behaviour nearly everytime we go. The film we watched last sunday was a 12 and the people who went to see it had a mental age of about 2, although they looked like they were about 20. I also noticed they were all wearing branded sports wear. (see my op on Nike).
Peterborough would be a much nicer place to live in, if these nasty, childish gangsters werent in it.
The one good thing about the cinema is that the car park is looked after by the security but thats about it for security. Also you get people coming in to watch the film shouting when its halfway through as they've sneaked in when another film has finished. The cinema needs cameras to catch these idiots. The food and drink in the cinema is also quite expensive, so its probally best to take your own. No smoking and no mobile phones are allowed, but yobs still smoke and use their mobiles in the rooms! Also if you can, try and get a taxi or a bus or car to the cinema, as it is very unsafe to walk there as there have
been loads of muggings and attacks etc!
There has been a new cycle route in Peterborough called the green wheel or something, where people can bike for miles following certain routes, but again the yobs around here have spoilt that by turning the signs to other ways to get you lost.
I suppose that just about every place in England and anywhere else in the world for that matter has its share of yobs. These people should be stopped as they are only making inocent peoples lives such a misery.
One nice place to go in Peterborough would have to be Ferry Meadows. This is located in Orton Longueville. It is a place where you can go for a picnic, a bike ride, a walk or a boat ride or play golf etc. There are a couple of lakes surrounded by trees and paths! It is very nice and peaceful there, but mind you dont go at night, as thats when all the yobs like to crowd there. The best time to go is during the day. There is also a restaurant, kids play areas and a souvenier shop there, which only usually open in spring and summer during the day. There is also a man who watches the park. He drives around in his van every day and night, to see if everything is in order, which makes the park more safer. You have to pay for the car park in summer but not in winter or spring.
I cant really think of anything else to write about Peterborough at the moment, but when i do i will add to it. Thanks for reading!
