Advantages: City life, university, transport

Disadvantages: Could be too small for some people

When deciding where to go for university Preston was somewhere I hadn't contemplated. However, I had an offer through clearing and went to see it and knew that it would be the city for me.

How to get there
---------------------
There's a train station in the city centre, it has direct links to towns such as Manchester, Leeds and London. There's also a large bus station if you're not a fan of the trains.

Getting around
-------------------
The city is close to major transport links. The city isn't too big so it's easy to get around the centre. However, if you want to travel out to Deepdale or surrounding areas there are bus connections that are reasonably priced and can be caught from the bus station near the markets.

Shopping
------------
The high street contains all the shops you'd expect anywhere else, there's WHSmith, M&S, Wilkinsons and much more. There's also the markets where you can pick up a bargain.

Entertainment
------------------
There's a cinema not too far from the city, it's about a 20 minute walk though from the university campus so a taxi or bus might be best if you don't know your way.
There's also a great selection of pubs and clubs (it is a student city after all), and on the weekends there's usually a bouncy castle set up in the town for kids to enjoy.
There's also the Guild Hall which has plenty to offer.

Studying
-----------
Preston is home to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). It offers everything from Science and Law to Film Production and Media. The staff are friendly and helpful and there's so many things for students to do you'll be spoilt for choice.

Surrounding area
----------------------
Preston is only 30 or so minutes from Blackpool which makes for a great day out. It's also only 15 minutes from Lancaster and Lancaster Castle. If you want to travel a bit futher there's the Pendle District which offers senic walks and landscapes.

Overall, Preston offers much of what other cities do, it's not as big and busy though as other cities and it's a nice balance of student life and workers.
It's definately worth a visit if you're in the Lancashire or Yorkshire region or are thinking of moving up north.

Summary: Great city for workers, students and families
