Our own block, New Caledonian Wharf is on the site of a timber warehouse, but no trace of the original building remains, other than the shape of it. Like others nearby, we have our own pool and gym and 24 hour security. There are lots of nice pubs, The Moby Dick and the Fitchetts for instance, and places to walk and cycle like Russia Dock Woodland or by Greenland Dock. We have an amazing number of foxes, some of whom have learned to use a nearby pedestrian crossing! As the housing areas are so far from major roads, there is minimal traffic noise. Dooyoo will, I expect move this to a category of its own, but where I live in Rotherhithe is part of the old Surrey Docks that disappeared under housing in the 1970's. I got to know the locality when I met my husband who has lived here all his life and seen the area change from working docks to a major housing area. Some of the flats that were formerly in public ownership, plus riverside warehouses are now redeveloped as private blocks.
