Advantages: Surrounded by Countryside, some historic sites

Disadvantages: Kebab shops, factory skyline

Runcorn is a heavily industrialised town, about 15 miles east of Liverpool based on the banks of the River Mersey. Although the reputation of the town has been tarnished over the years by dozens of disreputable pundits and naysayers - TV crews have obviously seen something in the town - With 'Merseybeat', 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' and 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' all being filmed here - With locals dubbing the town as 'Woolywood'!

Primarily used as an overspill for the overcrowded streets of Liverpool, there are some terribly ugly parts of Runcorn - Specifically the brutalist architecture of the 'New Town' estate of Castlefields and the ridiculous roundabout structure of Windmill Hill, but there are particularly attractive parts to the town as well. The nature reserve of Wigg Island provides a haven for dog walkers and bird watchers alike - Norton Priory and Halton Castle are significant historical buildings. Much of the town is on the brink of the countryside, so whereas Runcorn is often portrayed as a smoke-drenched, factory town, it is actually surprisingly green and verdant.

Forget about the dozens of kebab houses and dodgy boozers lining the streets of the Old Town, there is much good about Runcorn - And if its residents stood up for it a little more, then maybe everybody else could realise it as well

Summary: Come and visit - There are pleasant surprises here!

Woolywood! Love it! You're right about the countryside - there are some lovely drives in the area.
