Advantages: It's perfect

Disadvantages: None - I know i'm biased

I've live in the Highlands of Scotland all my life. I don't think I ever really appreciated how amazing it actually is until I grew up and went to other places. I always felt myself being drawn back home

I am always going to be a country girl and I actually get nervous about ever having to move to a City. So when the time came in life to go to Uni or college I decided it just wasn't for me. (The thought of not living in a tiny town made me feel complete fear). So I carried on working and living in Evanton, Ross Shire. It was a great little town and all areas and towns round it were also great.

The best thing about Evanton is Fyrish Monument which you walk up a very steep hill to see the monument. And the best thing about this is the breath taking view of Evanton, Alness, Invergordon and Cromarty Firth. That's when you really begin to realise that you shouldn't take living in Scotland for granted.

Ok living up here was great and I loved it, everyone knows each other which can be annoying when people know your business. But then in your hour of need you'll always have help. But it has it downsides mainly the weather and there's not much to do.

The weather - well everybody knows that it almost always rains in Scotland. There's no getting away from that fact, it is also a lot colder here than the rest of the UK. It really is a small price to pay when you have the luxury of getting snow almost every year. Seeing the countryside look so picturesque with the snow brightening up the place and hearing the noise of the snow crunch under your feet. It's my favourite time of year. It does get sunny sometimes in Scotland, not often but it does happen. Many people have told me that the weather in the Summer is Scotlands best kept secret and they say it rains all the time to keep the countryside for themselves!!

Scotland is not hills and Mountains with trees. There is many cities including Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They have really great shops but again they have some really nice tourist things. Especially Edinburgh Castle, it is such an amazing place and looks fantastic. Glasgow is probably more well known for the two main football teams - Celtic and Rangers. Aberdeen is known for the Oil business and to be honest not one of my favourite places in Scotland.

So when I decided that I was going to finally move away and live in London, get away from the quiet lifestyle, I went to London for my interview and got the job. Something didn't feel right. The place was so busy with so many people practically running everywhere, it was also very built up, I couldn't even drink the water. I flew back home a few days later and never went back to London. Scotland really doesn't realise what is so special about it. Ok we've not got great roads, nor have we got thousands of fantastic job opportunities in the Highlands but I would never want it any other way. I will never take anything about the Highlands for granted again.

Even driving down on the painfully bad main road - the A9 to Perth from Inverness, it makes me smile when I take in the Mountains, driving through the area. My best day was driving along with two RAF planes flying really low in between the Mountains - something very Top Gun about it. To me it's heaven.

If you're looking for a quiet holiday, slower pace of life or just a change of scenery you should really think about Scotland. You never know it might even stay sunny for you.

Summary: Appreciate every part of the country

We moved to Scotland 40 years ago and although I go south to visit relations, Scotland is our home and a brilliant place to live.

he he! I'm sorry. Never been to Dundee, probably the only place in Scotland I haven't been. It's my mission for the year!! :)
