Shetland Islands:
... Shetland Islands are very remote: the ferry from Aberdeen takes 10 hours (overnight) to reach Shetland. Obviously, it is expensive to travel that far. Although you could travel without a cabin, such a long trip justifies booking a bunk. The weather is harsh and the winds strong most of the year, so don t forget your seasickness tablets. Shetland is mostly of interest to birdwatchers specalising in seabirds. There... Read the full review: Shetland: cold and wet islands for the obsessive birdwatcher by Kate Sellers |

Plockton ... is a village located in the North West Highlands of Scotland, close to Kyle of Lochalsh. It is on the shore of Loch Carron, and is a National Trust conservation village. It is well known as being the setting for the popular BBC series Hamish Macbeth, from the mid 1990s, as the fictional village of Loch Dubh. This beautiful setting captured on the show put Plockton on the map, and it is now a popular destination in the area. As a huge fan of Hamish Macbeth, my recent visit to Plockton was a bit of a pilgrimage. I spent our time there excitedly spotting where Wee Jock was hit, the Loch Dubh pub, Hamish s house...as it was late September and very wet, the village ... Glen Coe ... is certainly one of my favourite places in Scotland for a number of reasons. Well not actually the town Glencoe but the actual glen and Rannoch Moor. Better get on with my reasoning! The A82 is one of the nicest roads to drive along, not only is the scenery great come snow or sunshine but it s such a fun driving road. Not that I recommend speeding of course. In the summer time you have a wealth of activities open to you, you have endless options of hill walking. It s a mountainous region... but I imagine that Meall a Bhuiridh is likely the most popular amongst walkers/hikers. If you are into fishing then the numerous lochs on Rannoch Moor provide fantastic sport ... Read the full review: Glencoe - the heart of Scotland by Scotty9 |

Gretna Green ... I just wanted to get married. After much thought I decided that Gretna Green would be the ideal place and leaving our son with my parents we went and got married in Gretna Green, just the two of us. Gretna Green is a village in Annandale and Eskdale district in the Dunfries and Galloway. It is just above the border between England and Scotland and it is easy to get to. I live in Yorkshire so I think it only took about 2 hours to get there and it was an easy drive. I organised the wedding myself and booked everything after receiving a couple of brochures. We stayed in a nice small hotel where everyone was really friendly and welcoming. We were to be married at The A... Read the full review: I got married at Gretna Green! by dthpsb |
