Short breaks from Cambridge.
I was born in Cambridge and grew up in a Cambridgeshire village frequently went into Cambridge to shop, to swim, to visit the museums, to laze away time by the river Cam and as a teenager I went to listen to music at the corn exchange to pose and look pretty hoping to catch a boys eye.
I spent a couple of months in hospital in Cambridge after a car accident.
I have managed to break away from Cambridge in my Adult life but I still visit as my parents live there still. And over the years I have had many short breaks from Cambridge.Cambridge is a good town to visit but sometimes you just need to explore a bit wider area.
I shall tell you of a few places we have visited.
I was lucky as a child in the late 50s my father owned a car, not so many people did then. We went on holidays most years that I can remember not everyone could afford to. The Sunday school has a regular trip to the seaside every year .I and my friends would also cycle the countryside in Cambridgeshire.
By Bicycle we would visit St Ives a small town in the river we would fish and play. We would cycle to Godmanchester nr Huntingdon and walk and play by the river. We would pack our lunch into our saddlebags and tour the local countryside.
Our Sunday school trips would be to the east coast the Suffolk or Norfolk coast only about 50 /60 miles away. We would go to seaside resorts such as Hunstanton still a nice quiet seaside resort or Lowestoft a bit bigger town. We visited Yarmouth. We would paddle in the sea ride a donkey and buy our stick of rock.
If you are a bird watcher there is always Blakeney point and Clay marshes or Minesmere on the east coast to visit. We have visited these places many times. Sadly they are now just a little far to take my dad when we visit and it would mean leaving mum on her own she is really not very well at all now.
Not too far away from Cambridge is the town of Ely with its cathedral this is a good town to visit for a day.
The town of Norwich is not to far away for a visit. Norwich with its town walls its castle and old market. The river flowing through it. My bro in law and family live here its about time we visited again. Norwich is certainly somewhere for a short break a day or more .
Peterborough is not that far away about an hour 45 miles the cathedral in Peterborough is worth looking at . I broke away from Cambridge at the age of 16 to go to college in Peterborough . met my husband there .
London is not far away and there is a frequent train service from Cambridge.
Wicksteed park is not to far away if you wish to visit an amusement park. There is always Woburn safari park
If you are a fisherman or a sailor why not visit Gratham Water nr Huntingdon. Brampton woods also nr Huntingdon is beautiful at primrose time and is one of few places you can hear nightingales.
If you want a short break of a weekend or week away the coast is a great place. I have many seaside memories staying in caravans or chalets, some guesthouses there is a variety of accommodation along the coastline. Small seaside towns like Sherringham and Cromer or larger ones like Clackton and Yarmouth
If you do go down to the coast do take your bucket and spade and crab line.
There are many places of interest for a short break from Cambridge either for a day trip or a weekend . Have fun where ever you go best wishes Mary
Summary: Lots of places to visit

- 16/08/05 Hi Mary. Are you on Tooyoo? http://www.crosswordcheat s.com/tooyoo/index.php
Otherwise I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Re your vouchers/cash then I should imagine the site will be slow to pay out a large sum like that. Ciao certainly was whenever a big claim was made. Still...that's no excuse. Sebastian is running the show and is a smashing bloke. You can reach him at Tooyoo above as he is a member. Other than that you'd need to e-mail him at the addy below with the details. Take care, my dear and I hope this helps. Paul xx
