Short breaks from Peterborough.
I was at Peterborough tech 30+++ years ago I met my husband in Peterborough and we frequently visit relatives there and although Peterborough is ok to go to for a short break while I was living there I wanted many a short and longer break away. I like wildlife, watching bands a little shopping I am interested in history so come visit a few places with me.
First lets go bird watching in ferry meadows this is a country park on the outskirts of Peterborough.
If you object to the research done on animals you could always go on a short break to Huntingdon life sciences to object. Not so sure about recently but some of their trials on Animals in the past I have not agreed with. Go for a walk In Brampton woods. Which is near there.
If you are interested in birds go to Clay to sea watch or Minsmere the RSPB reserve to view the marsh harriers or see the Avocets and bitterns
You could visit Longthorpe where there is a roman fort
For a very short break of only a little distance away there is Stamford only 12 minutes away by train. Stamford is a town that has old stone built houses it is picturesque and has been in many TV programmes most notably for the setting of Middlemarch on the bbc look at the website http://www.stamford.co.uk/tourism/attractions.shtm l if you are interested.
You could always go on a short break to the university town of Cambridge 40 minutes, 64k away pop into Cambridge for the folk festival in August or go punting on the Cam, go to gigs at the corn exchange.
.
London is only 50 minutes away from Peterborough by train and I am sure many a short break from Peterborough has been enjoyed in London.
Some people hop on the train for a trip to York Peterborough is only 1 hr 10 minutes away and York is full of historic things to entertain makes a super weekend.
Ely is near too and the cathedral is magnificent.
Then there is always the good old east coast Sunny Huny (Hunstanton), Yarmouth, Clacton, Sheringham for somewhere quieter lots of seaside resorts to get your sticks of rock see punch and Judy take a stroll along the prom get some fresh sea air or just dig a hole in the sand or build a sandcastle.
So as you can see there are many places you can visit within an hour or two away from Peterborough you could always stay in Peterborough and visit the cathedral walk by the river , go and see my ma in law or visit the key theatre . Hope this has given you a few ideas of where to break away to if you get stuck in Peterborough. Mary
Summary: lots of places to visit within 2 hours from Peterborough
