Advantages: quite a good nightlife, really nice ice - cream
Disadvantages: the smell of chip fat & visitors with about 50million kids
Skegness well where do i start ???
Ok Lets talk about thr first time i went to good old skeggy.
BACK THEN
The first memory of Skegness was when i went when i was 5 & i can remember playing on the beach, building sandcastles, playing on the trampolines (in particular losing £1 :-( jumping around) & ridding the donkeys. I had been many times before apparently but i have no recollection of those times (bad memory comes with age u know)
Then Skegness seemed wonderful lots of big rides , loads of other kids, lots of fun & always one of those granny pubs where old people play cards & dominoes (my grandparents took me).
THE BIT IN BETWEEN
Then for some reason my mum was really mardy about going couldnt stand the place (i could never understand why) & we began holidaying abroad (I mean wow what an experience )
I then never visited Skegness until my early teens & then i came round to my mums way of thinking.
MIND OF MY OWN
My first impression of Skegness was fairly ok but now i had been used to gorgeous weather & luxury hotels, so you can imagine the dissappointment expecting some fab holiday !
REALITY CHECK
The rides i thought once to be big & fast turned out to be the dodgems, waltzers, twist & a ghost house.
The beach is now looking quite grim & the sea dirty
The shops tackier than ever (& even more overpriced)
The poor old donkeys have had their day
The tourists had dwindled away.
THE PIER
The pier is probably the best part of Skegness in my eyes it is one of the nicest in England much better than Blackpool anyway it is clean bright & has some very good machines very modern.
The pier also runs out quite a way not as far as it used to but i suppose it just wouldnt be safe, its a nice walk but isnt worth it if you dont like being bothered. The most Annoying thing is the overpriced stalls the food is ok but they have the ugly young lads with the usual saying come on love win a teddy blah blah but i dont know about any1 else but i dont usually pay 2 quid to chuck a bean bag at some cans to win a 20p teddy!
Whether Skegness has gone down hill or i was just young & niave i dont know but my mum reassures me Skegness has not changed a bit !
But after i all i did have some good memories of the place & did go back a few times in my younger years mainly just boozing so at least they did somethign right here is a quick low down on the different times of year to go
SUMMERTIME
In the summer a lot of people do go but it is mainly well how do i put it without sounding like a snob not commoners but more like families with a million kids who live off benefits you know the type. Everything is open but the prices of things is so high you could get a week in ibiza for the money you spend on food alone.
The ice creams are nice though & you can have almost anything on them! I personally liek raspberry ripple with hundreds & thousands on um yum . The night life is also quite good there are some decent pubs & a lot of people go for cheap & cheerful stag & hen dos good thing is all the pubs are close & some are quite nice for example harveys & the littern tree two excellent pubs that get packed out & are very trendy open till 1 & do good deals on drinks ! (which is always a bonus)
WINTERTIME
Skegness is also known as the ghost town in winter months, but it really isnt that bad the oubs are a little quite but a Saturday night is always a good night a lot of locals coem out that dont come out in the summer due to too many annoying tourists (we've all been there)
Skegness has some nice shops too a couple of good designer shops including oscars & Greens which are well worth a look other than that they have a few normal shops in a small precinct called the hildreds theres a allsports, knickerboker, whsmiths, hmv, superdrug etc
& if you are there longer than a weekend you can visit other places liek lincoln for example which is a lovely place excellent shops & xmas market !
Thats me all done hope i havent offended anyone in my review if i have im really sorry but i think everyone grows out of Skegness maybe that is why i havent been back in a couple of years.
But then again British tourist areas all need a kick up the bum to get them decently developed
Summary: Skegness lol

- 16/09/06 Mardy is used a lot more widely than the comment below suggests - it's certainly well used in the Northwest. I struggled with the spelling and punctuation in this but the content was good enough to overcome that. |
