Advantages: Victorian Style

Disadvantages: The tide is always out

Southport is situated on the North West Coast, about 20 miles North of Liverpool, it is south of preston and Blackpool.
Although smaller than Blackpool it has a lot to offer.
Lord Street, the main shopping street with many designer shops and a couple of department stores, is very elegant and covered with a victorian canopy. Band Stands fountains and cafes flank one side and shops the other. A Victorian covered shopping arcade is well worth a visit for the arhitecture alone, and this is adjacent to Lord Street.Between the shops and the sea is a large man made lake, surrounded by pitch and putt, tennis ,bowls and crazy golf. Jet skis can be hired on the lake.Nearer the beach is a fairly large but tacky fairground ride, with an award winning wooden roller coaster,. and a free hanging modern one.
The beech is very large due to the fact that the sea is almost always out. , great for walking dogs or playing football etc.Swimming is possible but the quality of the water is very dubious.

Southport is a great place to stay or visit...but there is far more to it than indicated here.....I'll get around to writing my own opinion shortly ....(although I may wait until I find out more about the new marina development!)
