Advantages: Lovely town, steeped in history.

Disadvantages: Gets very busy in the summer months.

St Andrews is undoubtedly most famous as being the home of golf. While you can do a lot of golfy things in the town - visit many golf courses (including the Old Course), the British Golf Museum, etc there is also a lot more on offer in the ancient 'city'.

The town is also home to St Andrews University (most recently famous as being the university where Prince William studied) and has many other attractions. You can have a look at some of the many Uni buildings spread around the town, visit the Aquarium, town museum, Preservation Trust Museum, Crawford Arts Centre, Castle, Cathedral and don't forget to have a look at at least one of the three beaches! Even just walking through the main streets of the town you will get a feel for the history of the place - St Andrews was the scene of many key events in Scotland's rich history.

There are many lovely shops - some chain shops while many are independent gift shops, etc and you have an amazing choice of eating out in the various restaurants, hotels, cafe's etc. As this is a student town you will also find a large number of bars, pubs and coffee shops! Don't forget to pop in to the Tourist Information Centre on Market Street for some free info (including maps, etc) and they'll even help you book accommodation if you need it.

St Andrews really is a beautiful town/city and a place you need to visit again and again to really get a chance to enjoy all it has to offer.

Summary: A lovely town well worth a visit!
