Newest Review: ... even a hat making museum which is the only hat museum in the UK located on the A6 about a 10 minute walk from the train station. There are lots of historical structures such as the Railway Viaduct to the old market place...There is also an air raid shelter tour which runs from Tuesday to Sunday. There is an olympic sized swimming pool located opposite the train station along with a cinema and fast food restaurants. Stockport is a popular town and is one of the main stopping routes for the virgin train's London to Manchester highspeed network, such as London-Watford Juntion-Birmingham-Macclesfield-Stockport then Manchester. There is a reason for this as stockport borough has approximatly 900,000 people living there. Stockport became popular with hat making and there is even a hat making museum which is the only hat museum in the UK located on the A6 about a 10 minute walk from the train station. Stockport used to be a thriving mill centre, not far from Manchester & many of the old buildings still remain in this area of Cheshire - I love it because the Industrial Revolution has always fascinated me. There's a good railway station which has Grand Central nearby for swimming, other sports plus a cinema & McDonald's if you a meal in a rush. Stockport also has a theatre near here called the Garrick which has some good plays considering it's a few miles from Manchester. For those liking history there's the Hat Museum which concentrates on the textile & mill workers' heyday in this area & has fascinating exhibitions - ...  Read the complete review

Stockport is the place I grew up, and lived there for the first 18 years of my life. It's mainly a suburb type area in south Manchester (Greater Manchester is technically the county, though the postcodes are all SK for Stockport - don't ask). The city centre itself has a wide range of typical high street shops and is surrounded by pubs and places like McDonalds. Generally it is not particularly clean or attractive. There is also a town hall and a couple of theatres. Close to the centre is a place called Grand Central which has a few restaurants, a swimming pool, cinema etc. There was also a very popular club called Heaven & Hell which ...  Read the complete review

Stockport - A Miniature Town! Okay, well for those of you that DON’T live in the UK, the first thing you need to do is book a flight to Manchester Airport. For those of you that DO live in the UK you can get there by train! With any look we’ll all meet up at Manchester Airport bus station! Once there the bus that takes you to Stockport is the ‘369’, it’s a stage coach bus and takes about half an hour to get there, when you get on the bus, you’ll find that the fare there is about £2 or less. Then pick a seat, sit back and enjoy the ride! On the way to Stockport you drive through Wythenshawe (which ...  Read the complete review
