No giant mall thanks (Surrey Quays)

Read today in 'The Wharf' free paper that there are plans afoot to fill in Canada Water and build a huge mall a la Bluewater linking up with the current Surrey Quays.

Canada Water was supposed to be one of the areas that was reserved as a leisure/wildlife haven when this area was first re-developed and could never be built on. Have Southwark council just forgotten this, or have they found a convenient loophole for destroying an amenity.

The RSPB may have something to say about it. In the past few years, some rare birds have turned up to occupy the nesting platform in Canada Water.

Quite apart from that, the local roads just will not take an influx of shoppers. Last Christmas there were horrendous jams just round the existing shopping complex.

One thing I would like though. Chuck out tatty Tesco and let's have Sainsburys. Or at least Tesco should review the management in this store because its b****y awful.

Readers, please write to your local councillor today and get this daft idea squashed before it gets off the ground.
