The town has a massive sundial (pictured) in the main square and several benches around it. The square is absolutely huge given that this is quite a small town, and there is a large pedestrian only road leading up to the idlewells shopping centre. The shopping centre has it's own indoor market as well as lots of big name stores like peacoks and ryman stationers inside the glass building. I have been visiting sutton-in-ashfield for a long time now, mainly just for days out doing a bit of shopping here and there, very occasionally to spend an entire day there though, because whilst there are a great number of shops there, the town is small and you can do all the good shops very quickly. Towards the back of sutton there is outram street which is pretty much the high street of sutton with plenty of indian takeaways and about 4 charity shops. They change hands and close down/re open on a regular basis so you have to keep your eye out for a good one. Sutton in Ashfield boasts the largest Sundial in Europe, it was meant to be a statement that would become a major tourist attraction in the centre of this small town. It probably would of been just that if the eye sore had ever actually told the time! It is completely useless unfortunatly. Sutton also has a small indoor shopping centre called the Idlewells centre. It is very bright and has a glass roof, which yes you have guessed it, is just like a greenhouse! Hot in summer cold in winter.
