Advantages: the woolsack races are a great event., balloon rides.
Disadvantages: bit pricey.
Tetbury is a small town on the top of the Cotswold Hills. It's a beautiful area, perhaps a little quaint, but very pleasant.
Tetbury is firmly on the tourist trail, with lots of pubs, tea shops and antique shops. It can be a bit pricey, but is well worth a wander around.
The highpoint of the year in the Tetbury calender is the Woolsack races. These occur in may, the second bank Holiday weekend if memory serves. There's a big street market with lively entertainment, crafts, art, and a festive atmosphere. the woolsack races themselves involve men and women (not racing against each otherbut racing against people of the same gender) running up and down a quite unfeasibly steep hill with a heavy sack. I don't know if they still use sacks of wool, but they did originally. On a hot day, this is a horrible thing to try and do, but some fit and mad people seem to think it's a good idea. As its all in the street, its free, although you will end up parting with your money to get food and craft items.
Other things to do. Not far from Tetbury is a small lake - Cherrington lake. This is lovely in the spring when the first snowdrops are out, and is a great place for a picnic.
Tetbury has a nice church, (aesthetically speaking)and there are quite often musical events in it.
Large places you can get to from Tetbury - Cirencester, Bath, Gloucester.
Westonbirt Arboretum (spelling dubious) Is wonderful - a huge park full fo trees from around the world. Spectacular in the Autumn, and often host to musical events. You can book balloon flights that start from here - an amazing experience that I can personally recommend. You have to book well in advance though.
Highrove House isn't far from tetbury, so its always possible that you might see Prince Charles out and about. The balloon ride often goes over Higrove - again, another reason to go up.
If you are planning a break in Gloucestershire and l
ike quiet, out of the way places, then this is a nice town to stay in, and its not bad for getting out and about. Due to being on top of the Cotswolds, it does catch the weather, especially the wind.
