Advantages: beautiful scenery, lots to do.
Disadvantages: could be more attractive
If you are touring around the south-west of Ireland, Tralee makes a great base as it's in close proximity to many other towns with all they have to offer as well, which makes for great day trips.
there is plenty to do in and around tralee. the town itself has an abundance of shops with a couple of modern shopping centers, countless traditional Irish pups, nice restaurants, attractive hotels and further out into the countryside, there are lots of Bed & Breakfasts.
other attractions in the town include a swimming/leisure center, tennis courts, and a beautiful town park with a "rose garden" (created for the annual rose of tralee festival) and the blennerville windmill.
a little further out, there are many activities, especially near the sea! there is an abundance of businesses offering watersport activities and also horse riding along the beaches.
As Tralee is situated at the foot of the slieve mish mountains, there are many opportunities for people interested in walking, cycling, hiking etc to get out and about and enjoy the magnificent scenery. There is a lovely mountain drive between tralee and castlemaine over the mountain with stunning views, on a clear day you can see for miles over the landscape and out to sea.
the only disadvantage really is the town could be made more attractive and clean. there can be a lot of litter and a lot of the shop fronts need decorating etc.
