I believe people visit Southport for many reasons. However, I think the main reason is Southport offers something that not many other towns can. One of these factors which make Southport unique is its location. Southport is located in the heart of the North-West of England, it is surrounded by many large cities whose inhabitants visit Southport as it is a pleasant place and close to home. Southport also has many other attractions around it, such as Liverpool and Blackpool. This means holidaymakers could be staying somewhere close to Southport and just be visiting. Also Southport is an old-style holiday resort, which attracts holidaymakers, and especially pensioners who will come to enjoy the tranquillity of a seaside resort, which also boasts high-class shops, and cafes where they can meet their friends. Southport also has a wide sphere of influence because it has an excellent shopping centre which was the focus of this geographical enquiry. Southport is home to many large department stores, boutiques and markets. Southport also attracts the younger element of society with its excellent cosmopolitan nightlife i.e. nightclubs, restaurants, bars etc. Many other towns do not have all of these attractions some of which are only found in Southport. This is another reason why people are willing to travel to Southport. Southport is also a very pedestrian-friendly town. Located in the centre of Southport is a national railway station, making Southport’s links with the rest of Northwest accessible and also a direct route from Liverpool, Manchester and Preston. Plus, located in the centre of Southport are large car parks, which means shoppers who have much to carry can access the convenience of their car, which they could not do in other shopping town centres as the car parks are too far away to walk to. Southport also has an excellent bus service linking Southport to almost everywhere in the Northwest. This allows peo
ple who cannot drive to access Southport’s many attractions easily. Besides this, Southport is attractive because it has a pleasant environment. This is derived from the high-class shops, buildings that are mostly in excellent condition and the small garden areas around the town centre. This makes Southport a very attractive destination which means people will come from far and wide to visit Southport.
