Advantages: The castle dominates
Disadvantages: Not cheap to get in
Well after reviewing Stratford Upon Avon I thought I would devote a review to its near neighbour Warwick which is also a lovely place for a day out. Warwick claims to be located exactly in the centre of the country and it is easy to get to from the M40 motorway.
For many the main reason to visit is to see Warwick Castle which is a fine example of a medieval castle on the banks of the River Avon. It is owned by the Taussauds group which means it is not a cheap place to visit as entry will set you back over £20 per person however it is still worth a look even if the Taussauds group will do everything possible to try and get as much money from you as possible. Fortunately the castle dominates the town so you can get a great view of the outside from a number of places if you do not want to go in.
The streets around the castle are great to explore, very tight and ull of antique shops and nice little tea rooms, it is a small compact town and easy to walk around, in the main town square there was a market on when we last went.
The gardens by the river are very nice and you can hire boats to paddle or motor along the river and this gives you a nice view close up to the castle. There are also things for the kids to do near the river such as an adventure play ground, also on the opposite bank there is acar park which is very convenient on less than a fiver for the day.
Lots of pubs and small places to eat are peppered through the town however we usually take a picnic if the weather is nice.
Warwick is a nice place to visit, the castle is the main attraction and that can fill a whole day but the rest of the town is nice as well.
Summary: Nice medieval town.
